Illinois is making great strides in helping local farmers and boosting our local economy through a new law pushed by State Senator Dave Koehler.
Senate Bill 3077, also known as the Local Food Infrastructure Grant Act, is all about getting food from Illinois farms to your table quicker and more efficiently.
This exciting new law sets up special funds called grants to help small food-related projects and bigger group efforts. Farms and local food businesses can get anywhere from $1,000 to $250,000 to help buy machines that package food, trucks that keep food cold, and other important equipment.
By focusing on locally grown food, the new law helps our state’s economy grow and takes good care of our environment. It also uses Illinois' rich soil in the best way possible, cutting down on the need to get food from far away, which is great for everyone.
